Council of Trustees

The Council of Trustees is the governing body responsible for the operation and development of Brescia University College.

Among its responsibilities, the Council of Trustees provides strong stewardship to Brescia, ensuring that its operations and actions align with its vision, mission and values. The Council of Trustees facilitates strategic planning for Brescia and monitors the implementation of those objectives identified through that planning. As Brescia’s governing body, the Council of Trustees is also responsible for appointing and supporting the Principal and for monitoring her performance, and for establishing policies that ensure the best operations of Brescia. The Council of Trustees advocates on Brescia’s behalf in the broader community, ensuring that Brescia will always be able to effectively achieve its core mission of educating women. Finally, the Council of Trustees ensures that Brescia meets its legal, budgetary and financial obligations at all times, identifying and managing risks and ensuring the responsible management of Brescia.

Maria joined the Brescia Board in 2005, serving on the Finance Committee, and is currently the co-ordinator of the Council of Trustees. Maria is a chartered accountant, working as the Internal Director of Finance at Ernst & Young LLP.	Liz is currently the Council of Trustee’s vice co-ordinator and is also a member of the Employee Relations Committee. Liz is an attorney in London.	Sara is the past co-ordinator of the Council of Trustees and is co-ordinator of the Governance Committee and Council of Trustee designate on the Brescia University College Foundation Board. Sara is the Director of External Relations for Let’s Talk Science.

Paul Caplan sits on the Brescia Council of Trustees as a member at large and community trustee. Paul is also the owner of Novaks in London.	Cathy is in her second year as the Alumnae Council representative for the Council of Trustees. Cathy is also Brescia’s Alumnae Association President.	Wilma is currently the co-ordinator on the Employee Relations Committee and has been a member of this committee and a community representative on the Board since 2006. Wilma is the Director of Education for the London District Catholic School Board.

Jane is a community trustee for the Brescia Council of Trustees and is also the chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. She is the Executive Director of the Children’s Aid Society, London and Middlesex.	Hanna is the chair of the Finance Committee and a member of the Council of Trustees. She is a Senior Tax Manager at Ernst & Young LLP.	In her capacity as Principal of Brescia, Colleen is an ex-officio member of the Council of Trustees, serving on all Council committees and sub committees. She also serves on all Foundation committees except the Governance Committee.

Ann, as chair of the Brescia University College Foundation represents the Foundation, on the Council of Trustees. She is a management consultant, working for Creating Dynamic Organizations in Toronto.	Marlene is the co-ordinator of the Property and Facilities Planning Committee and is a member of the Council of Trustees. She is an Assistant Professor and Associate Director of the Schulich Interfaculty Program in Public Health at Western University.	Lynne has been a community member at large on the Council of Trustees since 2010.  She also sits on the Joint Long Term Planning Committee. Lynne is currently the Director, Neighbourhood and Children’s Services, with the City of London.

Larry is a community member at large on the Council of Trustees and a member of the Property and Facilities Planning Committee. Larry is the Director, Business Development, for the London Economic Development Corporation.	Theresa serves on the Long Term Planning Committee and the Governance Committee on Brescia’s Council of Trustees. She is retired from teaching and chaplaincy at Brescia and currently volunteers at the Ursuline Centre at Brescia, L’Arche, and My Sisters’ Place.	Dr. John Mitchell is a professor in the Psychology Department and is Brescia’s Academic Dean. As the Academic Dean John is an ex-officio member of the Council of Trustees.

Theresa is in her fourth year as a faculty representative for the Council of Trustees. She is a faculty member in the Department of Religious Studies and Philosophy at Brescia.	Karen sits on the Council of Trustees as a member of the Finance Committee, the Property and Facilities Planning Committee, the Joint Long Term Planning Committee, and the Employee Relations Committee. She is currently the Director of Institutional Planning and Budgeting at Brescia.	Tracey is serving her first ex-officio term on the Council of Trustees as the Executive Director of the Foundation. Tracey is also the Director of Alumnae Relations at Brescia.

Marianne is in her third term with the Brescia Council of Trustees, representing the staff at Brescia. Marianne is Brescia’s Registrar and is the Director of Student Services for the 2011-2012 academic year.	Sr. Joan completed an eight-year term as the Ursuline representative on the Council of Trustees and is now beginning a new two-year term. She is the General Superior of the Ursuline Religia of the Diocese of London in Ontario.	Jennifer represents Brescia’s faculty members on the Council of Trustees. She has worked as a full-time professor in Brescia’s Psychology Department since 2007.

Amy is an ex-officio member of the Council of Trustee, a role she serves as Brescia’s Director of Financial Services.	Kim is in her second three-year term as staff representative on the Council of Trustees. Kim is the Director of The Circle Women’s Centre and The Institute for Women in Leadership (iWIL).	As Brescia University College’s Students’ Council President for the 2011-2012 academic year, Meaghan is the students’ representative on the Brescia Council of Trustees.
