University Student Toolkit

Registration is still open!

What is the University Student Toolkit?

In response to the changing needs and learning styles of the first-year student, Brescia University College offers The University Student Toolkit. The Toolkit will focus on a variety of essential skills; including exam preparation, note taking, intercultural competence, time management, the research process, avoiding plagiarism, grammar, and more!

What will I learn?

Upon completion of this jumpstart program, you will have a basic set of skills in the areas of academics, communication, research, and writing for use during your undergraduate studies and in your future career.

What is the format?

The Toolkit consists of five modules: Academics, Life Management, Research, Self-Reflection and Writing.

You have the option to choose between two streams:

  • You can register to complete ten fifty-minute workshops with at least one workshop from each of the five modules. Upon completion, you will receive the University Student Toolkit credit on your Co-Curricular Transcript.
  • Or, you can choose to register for individual workshops as you see fit. This option does not culminate in a credit on your Co-Curricular Transcript.

Who can take the University Student Toolkit?

Registration is open to Brescia University College students. The certificate is geared to first year students, but all Brescia students are welcome to register.

When are the workshops offered?

The detailed schedule is listed in the University Student Toolkit course outline. Workshops are offered either in-class in the Beryl Ivey Library or online via WebCT. Each in-class workshop is offered three times: twice between October and December, and once between January and March. Online workshops can be completed anytime. Please note - a minimum attendance of 5 students is required to run a workshop. Workshops with fewer than 5 students in attendance will unfortunately be cancelled. We will work with students affected by cancellations to select additional workshops.
