Preliminary Year

Preliminary Year

Are you going to university but are still in final years of high school? Consider the Brescia Preliminary Year program as your “stepping stone” to university.
We admit both male and female students into the program, even though Brescia is a women’s university. Why? We are the only campus that offers this program.

The Program: In Brescia’s Preliminary Year you will be taught by compassionate, dedicated faculty members who will teach you more than the basic academic skills.

The Courses: View Preliminary Year course details.

You will learn to:

  • Develop academic skills in reading, writing, and research
  • Manage your time
  • Study effectively
  • Prepare for examinations

The Brescia experience includes an average class size of fewer than 30 students. You will be coached by faculty and staff to become active, independent learners who are prepared for the demands of university life.

Your Classmates: You will be part of a small group of about 30 young men and women from across the world. Is this experience right for you? Typically students who excel are:

  • Driven learners looking for an invigorating academic environment
  • Interested in living independently either on-campus or off
  • Ready for the university experience

What you get out of this: We know you want to be successful, and your goal is to enter university. To “pass” the Preliminary Year you must complete 5.0 courses, but to get into university normally you need a 60% minimum average.

Our advisors will help you sort through your university options; however, if you’d like to remain within the Western family, the 2009 admission averages were (range depending on program):

  • Brescia: 60%-70%
  • Western, King’s and Huron: 65-75% (BMOS requires 70%)

Ready to apply: Applications are accepted throughout the year; however, you will begin your studies in September. Fill out our application and send in your high school transcripts to get the process going. Conditional offers can be extended based on mid-year or predicted grades.
