Learning to Lead
Leadership is essential to the future of individuals, organizations, and communities. As post-secondary students you are looked to as a leader both inside and outside of the classroom and as contributing citizens, your community looks to you for leadership and vision. The Leadership Certificate Program is just one of the programs that Brescia offers to support you in your journey as a leader and to help set you apart after graduation.
There are four progressive levels within the program; all students begin at Level I. Levels I and II consist of four consecutive weekly workshops and are offered once/term, attendance at the consecutive weekly workshops is mandatory. Levels III and IV consist of a combination of weekly workshops/group meetings as well the completion of a group leadership project within the community. The program takes approximately four semesters to complete. At each level, students gain an understanding of leadership theories, practices, experiences and skills.
Level I — A Journey in Self Discovery
Level I is rooted in self reflection, personal exploration, and group discussion. The discussion is structured as a conversation circle. Similar to roundtable discussions, conversation circles involve everyone sharing their thoughts and ideas in a safe environment, which nurtures curiosity and exploration. Level I will engage your thoughts about:
- Who you are
- The people, places, and things that have shaped your life
- Skills you currently possess
- Your areas for growth
- Your passions
- What it means to be a leader
- How labels and societal expectations affect you
- How you are perceived by others
