Brescia introduces new online tool to help prospective students budget for a year at university
London, ON – Covering the costs of a post-secondary education is top of mind for most students attending university. In a helpful innovation, Brescia University College has developed an on-line financial calculator to help prospective students determine their individual costs of attending Brescia for one year.
Registrar Marianne Simm said the calculator helps guide prospective students through the steps of budgeting for studying at Brescia and provides information about what financial assistance they might expect. “One of the biggest challenges for students is developing a full picture of costs and potential sources of funding. The calculator can factor in known scholarships and provides tips on additional scholarships, bursaries, and awards that students can apply for,” she explained.
This calculator is designed for students entering undergraduate programs at Brescia. After answering a series of questions about their program of study, expenses, sources of income, and country of origin, the student will be given an estimate of the cost of attending Brescia for one year. It is important to note that unlike an actual calculator, the figure provided is not absolute. It is an estimate based on the information provided by the student on the online form. The goal of the calculator is to provide students with a preliminary calculation of expenses and sources of funding.
Grade 12 student Nesrine Chiekh, who competed for first year’s tuition in Brescia’s Take the Lead public speaking contest last month, thinks that Brescia met its goal. “I found the financial calculator to be a great, easy-to-use tool for anyone wanting to attend Brescia University College. It took me five minutes to use. Within no time, I had a final estimated price. It is organized and convenient, as it approximates every cost one would have during the year such as residence, tuition, clothing, food, personal items, laundry, and much more.”
The Brescia team and Stamats Inc. – the higher education marketing company that helped Brescia to develop the calculator – have been working on this project over the past few months. Funding received from the Ontario government to support programming for first-generation students helped support the development of this tool.
