Leading by Example: Female Community Leaders Speak at Local Conference

London, ON – Global Vision’s London West Rising Ambassador Leenat Jilani and Samantha Fox, Riding Ambassador Program co-ordinator, seek to inspire leadership by gathering local female community leaders together with local students in a half-day conference. Fox, a University of Western Ontario fourth year, has been promoting Canada on a national level while Jilani, a Brescia University College third year, learned the value of networking while traveling to Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore last year on a Global Vision mission.

The Beyond Empowerment: Women of Change Conference will feature keynote speakers MP Susan Truppe, Parliamentary Sectary for the Status of Women; MPP Deb Matthews, Ontario’s Minister of Health; and Dr. Colleen Hanycz, Principal of Brescia. Local community leaders, such as Cheryl Forchuk, Associate Director of Nursing; Linda Russell, President OES Inc: Allyson Larkin, Social Justice and Peace Studies, Kings University College; Ms. Naeema Farooqi, CEO Idea Consultant, Creative Workshop & Founder/ Editor-in- Chief of London LINK Monthly, will be running mini-workshops for participants to become leaders of change.

The Rising Ambassador program was created as part of Global Vision — a not-for-profit organization started in 1991 by former London MP Terry Clifford — to connect youth with business and government with 30 peer volunteers representing every province and territory in Canada.
