Indigenous Peoples

Indigenous Resources

Our founding values of wisdom, justice and compassion ground us in continuing to build an inclusive campus while recognizing how we can bring the voice of Indigenous Peoples into initiatives at Brescia. By doing so, we work with our Indigenous students to empower them with leadership opportunities, foster a supportive academic environment and collaborate with their Indigenous communities to create a valuable learning experience on our campus.

At Brescia, we are committed to incorporating Indigenous initiatives including providing a variety of resources, hosting our annual Cultural Festival to include showcasing Indigenous traditions, serving traditional foods in the Mercato (including specials such as the Three Sister’s Stew and Fry Bread) and building a strong connection to Western's Indigenous Student Centre.

To get involved, contact Brescia’s Special Advisor to President, Diversity and Inclusion, Lissette Ochoa.

Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that our campus at Brescia University College is situated on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenausaune, Lenaapeewak, and Attawandaron peoples, all of whom have longstanding relationships to the land of Southwestern Ontario and the City of London. The First Nations communities of our local area include Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, Oneida Nation of the Thames, and Munsee Delaware Nation. And in our region, there are eleven First Nations communities, as well as a growing indigenous urban population. Brescia University College values the significant historical and contemporary contributions of local and regional First Nations, and all of the Original Peoples of Turtle Island (also known as North America).
