FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

London, ON – Brescia University College will usher in a new chapter in the University’s history by officially breaking ground on its $14 million state-of the-art Academic Pavilion at a ceremony on June 18th at 11:30 a.m.

“The Academic Pavilion is more than just an extension of Brescia’s physical make-up,” says Brescia’s Principal, Dr. Susan Mumm. “As we enter into our next century of educating and empowering young women to lead, the Pavilion will become a destination for cutting-edge research, new discoveries in learning and will allow us to continue to engage our community in new and exciting ways on campus. We look forward to breaking ground on a learning and teaching space that will be at the forefront of women’s education for future leaders.”

Designed by the internationally recognized architectural firm HDR, Brescia’s almost 30,000 square foot light-filled Academic Pavilion will capture the best in educational design. Built by local construction firm Tonda Construction, the Pavilion will include three state-of-the-art food and nutritional science laboratories, sensory and research laboratories, two multi-tiered classrooms, informal study spaces and an active learning classroom designed for dynamic group work to support Brescia’s current and future growth aspirations. The Academic Pavilion is anticipated to open in Fall 2019, which coincides with the University’s 100th year anniversary.

“June 18th will mark an important milestone for both Brescia and the larger community,” says Karen Fryday-Field, Chair of the Brescia Board of Trustees. “The Pavilion will not only enhance and enrich the personalized learning experience for Brescia’s students, but it will also strengthen the University’s connections within the London community, by helping to support the regions’ economic growth and development.”

The Groundbreaking Ceremony will include speeches from: Brescia’s Principal, Dr. Susan Mumm; Brescia University College Board of Trustees Chair, Karen Fryday-Field; Scotiabank Director of National Accounts, Jim Yeomans and HDR Principal of Education, Science and Technology, Dathe Wong. It will conclude with a special blessing by Brescia’s Director of Campus Ministry, Catherinanne George and a traditional sod-turning. Immediately following the ceremony, there will be a reception hosted on campus, where visual renderings will be available for viewing and refreshments will be served.

At 1:45 p.m. guests are also welcome to celebrate Brescia’s Class of 2018 as they process down Brescia hill to their convocation at Western
