Brescia goes green for Centennial Day of Service

April 17, 2019
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

London, ON – Brescia University College will trade in its trademark blue for “earth green” on Thursday, April 18th at its inaugural Day of Service event. An integral event of the University’s Centennial celebrations, this initiative with a focus on the care and health of the environment will pair Brescia students, faculty and staff with members of the Sherwood Forest Ratepayers Association and approval from the City of London to work together to help preserve the sustainability within the Medway Valley Heritage Forest.

In recognition of Brescia’s Centennial year, and on the heels of Earth Day celebrations, more than 50 volunteers are expected to join Brescia for its Day of Service. The initiative will commence on Brescia’s campus, at 12:00 p.m. Following this, volunteers will venture on a 10-minute walk behind Brescia’s campus, where they will assist with the pulling of the overgrown garlic mustard plant – a highly pervasive plant that is impeding the growth and sustainability of other natural life in the ravine area of the Medway Valley Heritage Forest. A thank you reception will be provided at the end of the day to all participants.

Brescia’s Day of Service was created in honour of the University’s foundresses, the Ursuline Sisters of Chatham, who were committed to community service and the preservation of our natural environment. The Day of Service event is one of several initiatives designed to celebrate the University’s history and pay tribute to the remarkable women who founded Brescia one hundred years ago.

Media and members of the London community are invited to Brescia’s Day of Service, taking place on Thursday, April 18th, 2019 from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. For additional information, please visit: http://brescia.uwo.ca/100/events/year-of-service/
