Brescia University College and London Health Sciences Centre pen collaboration agreement for dietetic practicum program

London, ON – A collaboration agreement has been finalized between Brescia University College and London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), which allows students in Brescia’s accredited post-degree Diploma in Dietetic Education and Practical Training (DDEPT) to complete a portion of their year-long practical education at LHSC, effective spring 2019.
“With this agreement, Brescia and London Health Science Centre are demonstrating their commitment to working together to help educate and develop highly-skilled, trained and well-rounded graduates,” says Dr. Paula Dworatzek, Chair of the School of Food and Nutritional Sciences at Brescia. “We are proud to have a long-standing relationship with London Health Sciences Centre, and are confident that this new collaboration will not only prepare our students to succeed as Registered Dietitians, but will also benefit and amplify the research connections and possibilities between our two institutions.”
“Formalizing our collaborative relationship in clinical nutrition with Brescia was a natural fit as we have a shared vision to develop practice-ready graduates,” says Carol Young-Ritchie, Executive Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at LHSC. “Dietetic students completing a practicum at LHSC will have the opportunity to experience all of the required competencies while still in a supported learning environment, building both the confidence and readiness needed to perform independently once they graduate into practice as Registered Dietitians. We look forward to working closely with Brescia as we welcome the next cohort of dietetic students to LHSC.”
The partnership will allow eight Brescia students to complete a portion of their practical education at LHSC per academic year.
Brescia’s DDEPT program is a one-year professional, post-degree program. It combines Brescia’s academic courses with practical training in research, clinical, community and management settings to prepare students for a career as a Registered Dietitian.
LHSC has a 56-year history of supporting dietetic education through its Dietetic Internship Program and the dietetic students from Brescia will draw from that rich legacy as they become practice-ready. This agreement not only strengthens our longstanding academic linkage with Brescia, it reinforces the hospital’s broader commitment to delivering high-quality learning experiences across all facets of health-care disciplines.
