Brescia’s Just Own It! Conference to highlight female entrepreneurship and social innovation

April 9, 2019
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

London, ON – On Wednesday, April 10th, Brescia University College will welcome close to 100 high school girls to campus for the third annual Just Own It! Conference. Centred around female entrepreneurship and social innovation, the one-day interactive event is designed to educate and raise girls’ awareness of entrepreneurship as a career.

Spearheaded by Brescia faculty members, Melissa Jean and Colleen Sharen, the Just Own It! Conference will be comprised of several dynamic elements designed to engage high school girls in Grades 9 – 12. Students will have the opportunity to participate in active learning workshops that will be facilitated by 11 local female entrepreneurs, as well as university student mentors. In these workshops, students will explore the process of generating and identifying a product or service concept designed to address a social challenge. Students will also enjoy a mid-day meal and engage in a mentor panel discussion, where they can network with and learn more about small business resources in London and the surrounding area.

In celebration of the University’s Centennial celebrations, the 2019 Just Own It! Conference will focus on the theme of social innovation. In recognition of the University’s foundresses, the Ursuline Sisters of Chatham, who were committed to community service and social justice, students will be challenged to create services and products that better our world.

Media and members of the London community are invited to attend the Just Own It! Conference, taking place at Brescia University College on Wednesday, April 10th, 2019 from 8:45 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Admission and parking are complimentary.
