This empowering event titled “LEADING WITH TRUTH: An Evening with Jody Wilson-Raybould” will feature an empowering discussion on women’s leadership.

As a lawyer, best-selling author and a leader in British Columbia’s First Nations, The Honourable Jody Wilson-Raybould will lead a dynamic keynote centering around the 2022 International Women’s Day theme “#BreaktheBias”, weaving together themes of leadership, truth and courage.

Jody Wilson-Raybould, P.C., Q.C., served as the Independent Member of Parliament for Vancouver Granville, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, the Minister of Veterans Affairs and the Associate Minister of National Defence until her resignation in 2019 following the SNC-Lavalin affair. She has been a provincial crown prosecutor, a councillor for the We Wai Kai Nation, a chair of the First Nations Finance Authority and has served as regional chief of the BC Assembly of First Nations. Wilson-Raybould is a descendant of the Musgamagw Tsawataineuk and Laich-Kwil-Tach peoples, which are part of the Kwakwaka’wakw and also known as the Kwak’wala-speaking peoples. She is a member of the We Wai Kai Nation. Her traditional name, Puglaas, means “woman born to noble people."

The Dr. Colleen Hanycz Leadership Lecture was created and funded by donors in 2015 to honour Brescia’s 11th Principal, Dr. Colleen Hanycz. The annual lecture is designed to bring outstanding leaders to Brescia to share their knowledge and experience with the community to inspire women leaders of the future.

“As a university with a unique mission to promote women’s leadership we continue to highlight this very important day with some of Canada’s most remarkable and bold women leaders. This year we are delighted to host The Honourable Jody Wilson-Raybould and we look forward to welcoming our community back to campus to celebrate International Women’s Day,” says Brescia’s President, Dr. Lauretta Frederking.
