It’s about hitting the target smashing stereotypes

Brescia empowers young women to reach their full potential though mentorship opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. As a women's university, we know mentorship matters.

Brescia students are encouraged to "dream big"--not just to achieve their goals, but to exceed them. It's not about hitting the target, it's about smashing the stereotypes and going above and beyond to break barriers and expectations placed on young women.

Q&A

Meet first-year Family Studies student, Ava Carter. Discover how Ava leads not only as a mentor, but through participation in her local community.

  1. Mentor icon

How are you a mentor to both your peers and the younger generation behind you?

I’m a mentor to my peers and younger girls because I  believe and demonstrate that young women are capable of more than we think. I know my biggest critic is myself. However, I remind myself and others it is never too late to take a bold jump, take a chance and become the change you want to see in the world.

  2. Books icon

What are your beliefs about Brescia’s all-women’s learning environment?

Brescia’s all-women’s learning environment allows women like myself to feel inspired to lead by being surrounded by strong women leaders of tomorrow. Being a Brescia student means that I feel comfortable to lead authentically, at the same time as have the opportunity to flourish through the support of many great role models--students, faculty and staff.

  3. Advice icon

What advice would you give to Brescia students who want to lead boldly?

When it comes to leading boldly, the most difficult step is the first, and putting yourself out there. The beneficial impact your contribution creates makes the journey worth it! The best way to grow and realize your full potential begins with stepping outside of your comfort zone.

  4. Leading together icon

How do you choose to lead together in your community?

I chose to lead together in my community through participating in opportunities that target local and global issues such as access to clean drinking water, food insecurity and violence against women. I contribute by voicing my ideas, standing up for my beliefs and collaborating with others to build new initiatives.
