COVID-19: Changes to Library Services

The Library Team is ready and available to support students, faculty, and staff in teaching, learning, research, and scholarship. Our virtual hours are Monday - Friday, 9am - 4pm.

 Contactless Pickup is available on Mondays and Fridays from 1 - 4pm.

Please note the Beryl Ivey Library will be closed on Monday, August 2, for the long weekend.

Looking to access our print collections? Eligible material can be requested for digital delivery or contactless pickup directly from Omni, our academic search tool.

The health and safety of our campus community is our top priority. We’ve implemented changes to our services to meet public health, government and University guidelines. We know that these changes may be a big adjustment from your previous library experiences. Access Collections

Contactless Pickup

Contactless pickup at the Beryl Ivey Library is available for regular loan materials!

Print material may be requested through Omni. You will receive an email with instructions for pickup up your item(s) when it is ready for pickup.

Enhanced health and safety protocols for Library staff and users means it may take us longer than usual to prepare your request. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Regular loan items are loaned for 120 days with unlimited renewals. Loaned materials may be recalled. Please check your Western email regularly.

How to Request Physical Materials:

  1. Place your request using the “Request” link in Omni. You will need to sign in with your Western ID.
  2. Select your pickup location from the list. To pick up your item at the Beryl Ivey Library, select "Brescia Library" as your pickup location.
  3. You will receive an email when your item(s) is available for pickup. Please wait until you receive this email to come to campus.

When you come to Brescia to pick up your item(s), you will need to follow our Contactless Pickup Instructions.

Digital Delivery 

Faculty, students, and staff can request portions of eligible physical library materials to be delivered in PDF format by email as allowable under the Canadian Copyright Act and fair dealing guidelines. Please see Western University’s Copyright website for further information about copyright.

With Digital Delivery, you can access a variety of materials such as book chapters, journal articles, government documents, reference works, and more. Your digital copy will be accessible for 30 days and you can open it 10 times, print, or save it to your computer. 

How to Request Digital Delivery:

To request digitized material, such as journal articles or book chapters, locate the item in Omni and click the “Digitization” link. You will need to sign in with your Western ID.

You will receive an email with instructions for accessing your digitized material when it is ready.

Available Collections

Brescia University College

All regular loan print materials are available for contactless pickup and digital delivery. In addition, many in-library use items are available for digital delivery.

If you are looking to access a collection that is not available for contactless pickup or digital delivery, or if we don't have an item you are looking for, please contact us. You are also welcome to fill in our Suggest a Title form.

Electronic Collections

Search in Omni for e-books, journal articles, streaming video and more.

Western Libraries has developed a new research guide, Expanded and Freely Available Resources that describes temporary enhancements made to collections to help support online learning. They also have a guide for free resources related to COVID-19 research.

Western & Affiliate Libraries

Collections at Western, Huron, Kings, and St. Peter's Seminary Libraries are available for contactless pickup and digital delivery. Please visit their websites for information about their collections:


All faculty, students, staff, and faculty emeriti at Brescia, Western, Huron, Kings, and St. Peter’s Seminary are eligible for contactless pickup and digital delivery.

Alumnae, guest and direct borrowers, and retired faculty and staff are now eligible for contactless pickup.

Ensuring a Safe Campus

The health and safety of our campus community is our top priority. The Library Team has redesigned our workflows and implemented new health and safety measures in accordance with public health, government, and University guidelines.

When You Visit Campus

The Beryl Ivey Library is closed to the public. No users will be permitted to enter the space. When picking up library item(s), please respect the instructions and signage regarding physical distancing and traffic flow. Please also wear a mask.

Please leave campus promptly after picking up library item(s).

Returning Materials

Returning Library Materials

If you need to return library materials, please return them to the Beryl Ivey Library return bin, located in the Mother St. James vestibule just outside the Library.

Please note that Library staff check the drop box on Mondays and Fridays only.

If you're unable to come to campus to return items on loan, please contact us to explore other options.

What about library fines?

Please note that we do not charge fines on general material. Unlimited renewals are also available for general loans.

Research Support

Research Help

Librarians are available for one-on-one support. We can help with topics such as finding academic sources, search strategies, evaluating information, citation, and more! We can also help with virtual technologies, such as OWL or Office 365. Reach a Librarian by:

Online Research Resources

There are many online resources available to help you in completing your coursework and research:

  • Omni is our academic search tool. Use it to search for journal articles, e-books, streaming video, and more
  • Databases are very helpful for finding subject-specific journal articles
  • Research Guides can help you to get started in your research. We have a research guide for each program at Brescia
  • Citation Guides for all common styles used in Brescia courses
  • Our Clever Researcher Blog has many research tips and tricks, such as how to develop keywords, Boolean searching, and more!

Course Support

Course Readings

If there are readings you would like to make available for your students, the Library can add electronic reserve materials through the Course Readings program. Please submit your requests via the Ares, our Course Readings software, or email If you require access to course readings currently only available in print, please contact us and we will investigate the availability of an alternative format.

Physical course reserves will be offered again for the Fall 2021 term. They are not available for summer courses.

If there is an e-resource you would like purchased, please email the Library at or fill in our Suggest a Title form. The purchasing of e-resources is subject to budget, licensing, and vendor availability.
