Orientation Leaders

Sophs are upper-year mentors who have dedicated themselves to welcoming incoming students to Brescia and the greater Western community. Your Brescia Sophs are your leaders, resources, supports and friends throughout Orientation Week and the rest of the year. There are approximately 800 ‘Soph’ student leaders on Western and affiliated campuses.

Who do Sophs support?

As an incoming Brescia student, you will be assigned to a small group of other new-to-Brescia students. Your group will be led by a Soph Peer Mentor whom you will meet and get to know during Orientation Week.

After Orientation Week, your Soph Peer Mentor will maintain regular contact with you and your small group over the year in order to help you transition successfully to life at Brescia. Your Soph Peer Mentor Team will provide a support network for you in areas related to your academic, social, and personal development. They will connect you to the resources and services every student should know at Brescia and Western.

How do I become a Soph?

Soph applications become available each year at the beginning of the winter semester (January). To apply, log into your Connect account and click on the Soph application available under the “Orientation” tab. For more information on the position and how to apply, contact the Student Life Centre at bucstudent.life@uwo.ca.
