Bursaries

Bursaries are non-repayable, taxable grants issued to students who demonstrate financial need. Bursaries supplement students’ primary sources of funding such as OSAP, bank loans/lines of credit, the student’s own resources, and/or those of the parents/spouse.

Eligibility

  • Must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident of Canada, or a Protected Person
  • Be registered at Brescia in a full-time or part-time program
  • Demonstrate a genuine financial need

Types of Bursaries

Fall/Winter Bursary Assistance

This general bursary provides financial assistance to students attending Brescia during the Fall/Winter academic year.

Deadline to Apply: October 15th, annually. However, the application remains open throughout the Fall/Winter term until the funding is spent.

Early Entrance Bursary Assistance

This entrance bursary provides financial assistance to students entering their first year at Brescia. The bursary will be applied to the student's Statement of Account to assist with tuition/residence fees for the upcoming academic year.

Eligibility:

  • Must be entering Year 1 of an undergraduate program at Brescia and have not attended a post-secondary institution prior to Brescia
  • Must be an Ontario resident, as defined by OSAP
  • Must apply for OSAP consideration before June 30th for the upcoming academic year
  • Demonstrate financial need

Deadline to Apply: July 31st, annually. 

Special Notes:

  • Students applying for Entrance Bursary consideration, are highly encouraged to also submit a Fall/Winter bursary application (available in late summer - see the tab above) to be considered for additional funding (ex. BOLD Works, First Generation bursary or Indigenous bursary.)

Miss the Deadline/Not Eligible?

  • Students who have not applied by July 30th may still be considered for bursary assistance by completing the Fall/Winter Bursary application for current students (see the tab above). This application is available in late summer and assessed in the late Fall.
Summer Bursary Assistance

Bursary assistance is available during the Spring/Summer term for students registered in courses.

Eligibility: Students must be registered in a minimum half credit (not Distance Studies) at Western during the Summer term and must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident. Note: Students who are registered in a 0.5 Distance Studies course only, are not eligible to apply for funding.

Deadline: July, annually.

Apply now: The application for summer bursary funding is available through Student Center.

First Generation Bursary

This bursary provides financial assistance to Ontario students with financial need who are the first in their family to attend postsecondary education.

Eligibility: Must be a student whose parents have not attended postsecondary studies (ie. College or University). This includes full or part-time studies, in or outside of Canada, at any time, in any program. Students must also meet general bursary eligibility and Ontario residency requirements.

Indigenous Student Bursary

This bursary provides financial assistance to self-identified Indigenous students with financial need, who are attending Brescia.

Eligibility: Students must self-identify as an Indigenous person in Canada. For the purposes of this bursary, an Indigenous person in Canada is anyone who reported being an Aboriginal person, that is, First Nations, Métis or Inuk (Inuit). Students must also meet general bursary eligibility and Ontario residency requirements.

BUCSC Student Opportunity Grant

This bursary provides assistance to students with fees that they incur throughout the year that are not covered by other scholarships or award initiatives, but still place a significant burden on students with constrained financial resources.

Eligibility: There are specific initiatives that this fund supports, that are outlined in Section 2.4 of the BUCSC Student Opportunity Grant Fund Policy. Please read this before you apply.

Bursary for Students with Disability

This bursary helps full and part-time postsecondary students with the costs of their disability-related educational services and equipment. By submitting a BSWD/CSG-PDSE application, you may receive assistance for the disability-related accommodations you need, such as note-takers, tutors, interpreters or technical aids while you’re in postsecondary studies. Senior Citizen Bursary

This bursary is available to senior citizens (if you are 60 years of age of older) who are registered in an undergraduate program/courses at Brescia. The value shall cover the cost of up to three full courses and will be applied directly to your Statement of Account. 

Deadline: Applications should be submitted prior to the start of classes for the session in which the bursary is required.
